In November 2016 we hit a funding crisis . As you may know , currently our service is short term only with all those referred offered just 12 weeks of one :one sessions ,due to lack of government funding. Please see here for more detail . We want this to be temporary and are raising awareness through our appeal to try and regain our unique long term rehab service.
You'll remember our first bit of press, the ITN appearance, . Following this we grouped together a wonderful team of expert volunteers who offered help , consulting on campaigning and fundraising, and also to make a promotional film to support Richard Amm's campaign. The film features 3 gym member stories, really bringing our written case studies to life. Thank you to all who took part; Graham and Roy, Grace and Albie. We are super excited to see them all after editing.
BBC London got in touch with Richard before visiting Ability Bow to interview campaigner Richard, gym member Grace and Lorna. The BBC news item sparked a lot of interest with over 70k views to date on various social media . We’ve also had a visit from BBC2’s Big Life Fix ! The Vanessa Feltz Show then came and interviewed Victoria and Richard for a great feature on BBC Radio London. Richard's petition is currently over 5500 and we are now aiming for 6000. We await a response from Penny Mourdant the Minister of Disability as well as the Dept of Health as contacted by reporter Victoria Cook and asked to comment.
We continue to seek adequate government funding, which currently provides just 30% of our total income. We remain 100% committed to supporting the most vulnerable disabled population with accessible, affordable exercise sessions in Tower Hamlets, and we are confident that we will find a solution to the limited tendering opportunities in the borough and that our reductions to service will be temporary.
Since the crisis hit we've received several donations (totalling £6800 to date) , offers of help and Pro Bono services, publicity opportunities are growing fast with help of an expert PR team volunteering for us but we still need all your help to keep this momentum going , we must make the most of maximizing publicity opportunities right now to keep awareness high and with that chances of funding. We thank everyone who has contributed ; donated , signed and shared petitions, taken fliers out and written to the press ,MP's and searched for funding opportunities for us.
